The state middle school track and field championships on May 30 were renamed in honor of Nathan Suter, who died on May 13, age 52, and who was instrumental in re-establishing Montpelier’s middle and high school track programs and the state middle school meet itself. The Nathan Suter Middle School Track & Field Championships were held at the UVM track in Burlington, a fitting tribute and an emotional one for Montpelier’s team. On the back of one athlete’s shirt were the words: This One’s for Nathan.”

Last week, about 200 kids from 10 middle schools showed up for one of the first track and field meets to be held in Montpelier for a long time. From the looks of it, good times were had by all.
