I was in Los Angeles in late June-early July. Six months after the Eaton wildfire swooped out of the nearby hills, most of the roughly 6,000 burned homesites in nearby Altadena, next to Pasadena, have been cleared of debris, mainly by the Army Corps of Engineers. Some rebuilding has begun, but most properties await permits to take the next step. As you walk through the area, it looks like a community in suspended animation, reeling from the losses, waiting for the next act.
