Fresh Rolls for a Nickel at The Manghis’

There’s only one place that I know of where a kid can buy a freshly baked roll for a nickel, and that’s The Manghi’s Bread in Montpelier, VT. Kids have been taking advantage of this deal for decades, walking School Street to and from Union Elementary School or stopping by after Storytime at the next-door Kellogg-Hubbard Library. There are limits though. Kids only, and it’s 50 cents for two. That’s Steve Stoufer, master baker and co-owner, bringing the guastelle rolls out of the oven in the first picture; and co-owner Maria Manghi Stoufer with a happy customer in the second.
